This Minecraft tutorial explains How to make a Trapped Chest in Minecraft with detailed screenshots and step-by-step instructed process.
One cool way to set deadly traps and surprise your friends is with Trapped Chests. They look just like normal chests, which makes them easy to booby trap and lure greedy, unsuspecting players. You can connect the chest with Redstone to a bomb, or you can connect it to an arrow dispenser. Either way, it’s pretty easy to set up a death trap for enemies (and friends too!)
You also need to be doubly careful around chests, as they can be Trapped Chests, which can be randomly found in some mansions. How do you recognize a trapped chest? Well, check out the locking mechanism. If it’s colored red, then you’re about to open a Trapped Chest.
What you need to craft a Trapped Chest in Minecraft is fairly simple:
- Tripwire Hook
- Wooden Plank
How to make Tripwire Hook
In order to make this key item, here are a few items you’ll need:
- 1 iron ingot
- 1 stick
- 1 wood plank
1) Get Iron Ingot
It is possible to get an iron ingot from zombies or iron golems who can sometimes drop it. If you want to craft it yourself, you can use either Iron nuggets (x9), raw iron (x1), or a block of iron (x1).
If you have nine iron nuggets, you can add them to every cell in the 3×3 crafting grid to get a single iron ingot. Alternatively, if you have a block of iron, add it to the top-left cell and nine iron ingots will appear.
Finally, if you have raw iron, you will need a furnace and fuel like coal to get your iron ingot. Add coal to the bottom cell of the furnace, then place the raw iron in the top cell of the furnace. The coal should burn and smelt the raw iron into an iron ingot.
2) Get a stick
Sticks are important for way too many things in Minecraft, and you’ll be right to keep a stockpile of them. Wood planks can be turned into sticks, and to get four sticks, you need two planks.
The easiest way to get sticks would be to search decayed leaf blocks. If a tree has been cut down, the leaf blocks that remain will decay and turn into sticks. You can break leaf blocks up by punching them with your hand to get sticks.
You can also find sticks when you fish, but the chances of this are low. Another way is to fight witches. When you defeat a witch, there’s a small chance they’ll drop two sticks when they die.
Craft the Tripwire Hook
You’ll need to add these to a crafting area with a 3×3 crafting grid. Note that you can use wood plank from any type of tree, including birch, oak, spruce, acacia, dark oak, and others.
In the 3×3 crafting area, place the iron ingot in the top center cell, then place the stick in the middle center cell. Finally, place the wood plank in the bottom center cell. This will automatically craft the tripwire hooks, which you can move to your inventory.
How to make A Wooden Plank
To get a wooden plank, you’ll need logs. You’ll often find oak logs generated across the game, especially as outposts and watchtowers. If you are playing in survival mode and need to get the wood yourself, you need to find a suitable tree to get logs.
Here are the steps to get logs from a tree:
1) Find an oak tree in a forest.
There are also other areas where you will come across oak trees. Hold an ax, preferably a diamond ax, because it works fastest. If you don’t have an ax, you can also use your hand. It will just take more time.
2) Chop the tree trunk up with your ax
Keep in mind that the falling logs can disappear.
Ensure you pick the oak logs up before you don’t see them again, and add them to your inventory.
With the oak logs, you can now craft oak planks. So you’ll need to add these logs to your 3×3 crafting grid.
Note that one oak log makes four oak planks. Place the oak log in the top-left cell in your crafting grid. The four oak planks will automatically appear and you can add them to your inventory.
How to craft a Trapped Chest
Now you have both the required items, you can get started on preparing the Trapped Chest. You’ll need one Tripwire Hook and eight Wooden Planks to make a single Trapped Chest.
1) Make a Chest
Remember those wooden planks? You’ll need to place them within the 3×3 crafting grid. When you place them, they should fill all the cells around the edges. The middle cell should be empty. If done correctly, a Chest will appear, which you can add to your inventory.
2) Turn Chest to Trapped Chest
Now you have the Chest ready, you can craft a Trapped Chest, but you need to be cautious about the required pattern. When you open the 3×3 crafting grid, place the chest on the top-left corner cell and place the Tripwire Hook beside it on the top-center cell.
This should automatically craft the Trapped Chest. Remember to move the Trapped Chest to your inventory.
Conclusion: How to break a Trapped Chest
If you need to break a Trapped Chest, it’s quite easy with most tools, especially with axes, which seem to be faster than other tools. Any items within the chest will drop out when the chest is broken. However, if it’s a large Trapped Chest, half of the chest will break first, allowing half the items to drop out.
If you want to create a Large Trapped Chest (also called a double trapped chest), place two adjacent trapped chests together. Note that you cannot create a double trapped chest or a double chest by combining a normal chest and a trapped chest.
